Knowledge Management
Knowledge Management involves the organization, storage and
intelligent use of information and data that is available within
the enterprise and through public sources.
Knowledge Management is a widely encompassing area that covers
a number of systems and integrates with transaction focussed
systems such as Enterprise Resource Planning, Supply Chain Management
and Customer Relationship Management.
Knowledge Management is still in its early years and a lot of
technical development still needs to be done to enable better
usage and harnessing of the knowledge pool of organizations.
Enterprises believe knowledge that is harnessed and used well
can be instrumental in a lot of productivity and better decision
making in organizations and could create a distinct competitive
edge for businesses.
The area of knowledge management besides involving storage and
retrieval of information calls for sophisticated algorithms
and analysis methods to enable information or relevance to be
produced during searches across large volumes of data and content.
Knowledge Management must also be able to systematically and
easily capture expertise and experience based insights from
people and translate these into a format that can then be used
to impart training and decision support to executives.
